Scott Williams was the first to qualify for the fourth round of the World Darts Championship on Wednesday afternoon. The 33-year-old Englishman was too strong for the German Martin Schindler in a thriller with 4-3. In the next round, Williams may meet Berry van Peer. Dave Chisnall also qualified for the eighth finals.

Schindler, number 26 in the world, started the match as favorite against the unseeded Williams. The German, who had beaten Jermaine Wattimena in the previous round, fulfilled that role in the first two sets. He won both sets with an average of more than a hundred.

But after that the match, which was briefly interrupted by a flying insect, became much more even. Williams came back to 2-2 and 3-3, after which a decisive set followed. Williams won 4-2.

With a place in the fourth round, Williams achieved his best World Cup performance. Last year he reached the last 64 for the first time, in which Rob Cross proved too strong with 3-1.

In the next round, Williams will meet the Australian Damon Heta or the Dutchman Van Peer, who play against each other on Friday afternoon. World Championship debutant Van Peer has reached the third round thanks to victories over Luke Woodhouse and Josh Rock.

Chisnall also to fourth round

Chisnall also qualified for the fourth round on Wednesday. The eleventh-seeded Englishman won 4-1 against the German Gabriel Clemens, number 22 in the world. Chisnall threw a lower average (95.49 to 96.16), but had little difficulty with Clemens.

Chisnall is participating in the PDC World Championship for the thirteenth time. In 2021 he achieved his best performance in Alexandra Pakace, reaching the semi-finals. Gary Anderson was too strong with 3-6.

To get back into the semi-finals, Chisnall must win two more matches, starting in the round of 16 against the winner of the match between Ricky Evans and Daryl Gurney.

Several fourth-round matches are scheduled for later in the day. This is how the ‘Swedish Dutchman’ Jeffrey de Graaf meets two-time world champion Cross. The Dutch clash between Michael van Gerwen and Richard Veenstra will also be completed.
