What is important for a successful flight

For Steffen Göttler, gliding is a feeling of freedom, an opportunity to develop. He is particularly attracted to flying in the mountains, when he glides close to the mountain. Once he even climbed up to 6,000 meters. Normally it flies at most half as high when it takes advantage of the thermal updrafts. Looking over the Alps from his Ventus 2ax at this altitude was a very special experience for him.

The coming days are also something very special for the 36-year-old Göttler: He will be taking part in the 37th World Gliding Championships in Narromine, Australia, until December 16th. If the weather conditions are right, 80 glider pilots from 21 countries will cover distances of up to 500 kilometers there for three to five hours every day.
