After beating the number two last week, the number three of the competition was defeated on Saturday evening.

There was also korfball, water polo, badminton and rugby.

These are the sports results of December 9 and 10.

Saturday December 2

Handball (Room)

Last week, the gentlemen of HV Zaanstreek strengthened their lead against number 2. Now they visited the team that is third. The difference in the rankings was five points beforehand. This competitor was also defeated. Player Wouter van Lienen sent us his experiences around the match:

‘We played against US on Saturday evening, the student association from Amsterdam, where you always have to wait and see who the opponents are. We immediately took the lead and expanded it to 2-6, after which they started the match better and came back to 8-9. After this we increased the tempo in the match, with Dave Oehler in particular being able to get away quickly several times, resulting in a halftime score of 11-18. In the 2nd half, thanks to a strong goalkeeper Timo Wielenga, we were able to increase the lead to a maximum of 12-23. After this the match was played with a final score of 25-31.’

Korfball (Room)

The competition rages on. The League was already ready for the fourth round of play this weekend. Groen Geel played at home against the still winless HKC. They lost and the team from Wormer is not in a good position with only a draw in the first match.

In the other competitions it was time for round five. KVZ ’23 is still looking for the right form and the first victory, but they lost again on Saturday. Only the clubs in the 3rd division upheld the Zaanse honor.

Dennis Dallinga is a commentator on the Groen Geel livestream and a regular korfball correspondent for the Orkaan. He saw the Groen Geel lose on Saturday and sent us his report:

‘On Saturday evening, Groen Geel played the match in Wormer against PhD candidate HKC from Hardinxveld-Giessendam. A competition where the stakes were high.
HKC started the match strongly and took a 2-4 lead. There was an uproar when Sacha Horak of Groen Geel was knocked over by Daan Koppenol. Jasper de Leeuw reacted to this and so both Koppenol and De Leeuw received a yellow card and were allowed to grumble for 4 minutes. After that the game really went back and forth between both teams and the Wormers came back to a 7-7 tie at half time.
Immediately after halftime, Britt Kwantes was sharp and scored a goal for the home team. The score remained even until 9-9, after which HKC took a 2-point lead. HKC then slowly but surely ran away to a 13 – 16 lead. Groen Geel came back to 18-19, Anna de Ridder scored her 7th goal for the home team, but the gap never became smaller. Ultimately, this match ended in an 18 – 21 victory for the visitors.’

Coach Chris Beuk afterwards:

‘It was a hard-working match, in which it could have gone either way. But at crucial moments HKC was smarter and better at finishing. The men from HKC in particular stood up and we missed too many opportunities. The bright spot is that Anna de Ridder scores 7, we see a lot of potential in her and that turned out to be right tonight. The focus is now not on next week (Fortuna away) or on DVO at home (December 23), but on January 6. Then we play against KCC, where we really have to get points.’

Sunday December 3

Badminton

Matchpoint received Vennewater from Heiloo on Sunday. Dorien Schreurs reports to us:

Matchpoint 1 played a home match in the 4th division on Sunday against the number 6 of the group, Badminton club ‘t Vennewater from Heiloo. The opponent came at full strength, with 4 men and 3 women, with the aim of scoring some points. The men’s doubles was an exciting match with Matchpoint winning in two games. Unfortunately, the women’s doubles went to the opponent. The results of the singles were mixed. Mitchell lost the single despite his efforts. Dennis was able to stay in control of the opponent and won. Dorthe and Arianne also followed the good example and won the singles points. The mixed doubles were exciting again. Arianne and Jasper’s match had to be settled in a 3rd game, where they managed to maintain good control. Unfortunately, Dorthe and Mitchell encountered more resistance and were unable to control the game. The result is a tidy 5-3 win for Matchpoint 1.

Rugby

Number 8 Bulldogs received number 3 Zaandijk in Almere. This was the penultimate match for Zaandijk in phase 1 of the competition. With the win, Zaandijk climbs to second place.
Trainer Walter van Ling sent us his findings:

It was quite exciting, but in the end we won well. It was a beautiful week, since 2 weeks we also have a starting 2nd team, which forms a cluster team with West Friesland. The first time ever and today they won 66-0 against Ascrum. Furthermore, all youth teams won yesterday. Next Tuesday we have a women’s day, because we want to start a women’s team. I understand that there are already quite a few registrations, but if there are any Zaanse ladies who want to try, we start at 7 p.m.
