Víctor Francos resigns as president of the CSD

Victor Francos announced this Thursday his “resignation” from his position as president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) due to “professional reasons” and at a time when “a period of stability opens in Spanish sport” with the start of the new legislature.

“Today, I wish to announce my resignation from the position of president of the Higher Sports Council, a thoughtful decision that addresses professional reasons. We are at the beginning of the XV Legislature and, with this, the formation of a new Government, which opens a period of stability in Spanish sport“said Francos in a statement made public by the CSD.

Víctor Francos became president of the CSD in June of this year, replacing Jose Manuel Franco. Until then, since July 2021, he was the Secretary General of Culture and Sports of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Francos used his will, which he shared with the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, “to undertake new professional challenges.” “It is time for the Higher Sports Council to have a person at the helm who will take on the new challenges of this institution over the next four years,” he added.

The former president of the CSD stressed that closes an “exciting stage” in national politics started together with former Minister Salvador Illa in March 2020 in the Ministry of Health when the country faced the COVID-19 pandemic, “in the greatest challenge that a public servant could face.”

Finally, Francos thanked the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, his “repeated displays of trust” in this phase of his institutional life. “Also to the ministers with whom I have worked, for having given me the opportunity to develop my vocation as a public servant in a progressive and transformative project for Spain,” he concluded.

Among the challenges that Francos’ replacement in the CSD must face are the implementation of the Sports Law, and the new Ministerial Order that regulates the electoral processes of sports federations, including the RFEF, the Paris Olympic Games 2024 and the organization of the 2030 World Cup.
