Scott Williams fought with the Ally Pally wasp, checked the 170, showed a no-look 180 and even put on a big show with his match darts. The Englishman is the first unseeded player to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup. But not everyone likes his behavior.

Scott Williams stepped back again and animated the audience with wild gestures. While other players long for calm and concentration in nerve-wracking game situations, the Englishman demanded maximum volume. He had given out two match darts one shot before and when he went back to the board with seven points left, he played the three: he was still four points short of reaching the quarter-finals against the favored Australian Damon Heta when he addressed the audience with two darts in his hand .

An unusual behavior. But Williams converted the next dart on double 2 to make it 4-1. and is now in the round of the last eight at the Darts World Cup as an unseeded player. An average of 92.96 points and 41.9 percent on the doubles were in the end statistics. Decent numbers, but they were outshone by several highlights. Williams, who only won 4-3 in extra time against Martin Schindler in round three, once again delivered the big show.

He only won three of his four sets in the decisive fifth leg. In the second set he checked the 170 finish, which only Lee Evans, Ross Smith, Danny Noppert and Jermaine Wattimena had achieved before him at this World Cup. Just two legs later he followed up with a no-look 180 when he turned his gaze from the board to the side and still threw the third arrow into triple-20. The fact that he still gave up the pass didn’t change his style.

Kung Fu against the Ally Pally Wasp

Williams repeatedly interacted with the audience, often celebrating his checkouts long and loudly. Heta, ranked 42 places higher than his opponent as number ten in the world, looked on annoyed. And his somewhat reluctant hug after the match indicated what he thought of his opponent’s behavior.

Schindler had already expressed criticism of his opponent’s behavior. The German was referring to the incitement of fans at Alexandra Palace. After his victory, Williams also caused irritation with a World War II quote. However, there were scenes in the round of 16 that showed Williams moderating the predominantly pro-English audience.

In addition to the audience, “Shaggy” Williams also dealt with the legendary Ally Pally wasp, which appeared briefly on stage and was chased away by the 33-year-old with kung fu moves. Williams then delivered at least six perfect darts in the last set before he concluded the match on double 2. His quarter-final on Monday against Michael van Gerwen promises to be interesting. The Dutchman has already drummed and announced a 5-0 win.
