Valērijs Kuļibaba Leaves Chelyabinsk “Traktor” Team in KHL

Latvian specialist Valērijs Kuļibaba has left the Chelyabinsk “Traktor” team of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), the club reports.

The existing Latvian Sports Law prohibits those players and coaches who work in the championships of the aggressor country from receiving state funding, as well as from being in the national team in any capacity. Before the season, Kulibaba made a choice to work in the KHL, but shortly after the head coach of “Traktor” was fired, Kulibaba will no longer work for the club either.

The 47-year-old specialist 2021/2022. In the season of 2008, he worked for Riga “Dinamo” – both as an assistant and as a head coach. Before that, he also managed HK “Rīga” and “Zemgale/LBTU”.

Currently, the Latvian national team’s all-time leading scorer Leonids Tambijevs, who is the head coach of Vladivostok “Admiral”, as well as former national team coach Viktors Ignatjevs, who works for Beijing “Kunlun Red Star”, are currently working in the KHL.
