The 4th quarter tearful Sendai Daimeisei ace, who embodied the teachings of his late teacher, spoke of his gratitude.

In the middle of the third quarter (Q), Hiroshima Minami was trailing by as many as 16 points. A clear disadvantage. However, no matter how wide their lead was, Hiroshima Minami stuck to their “steady defense and quick attack” style.

From a tenacious defense, he quickly turned to attack. Every time a shot falls, he jumps for the rebound. If he was robbed of the ball, he would dash home.

As they persevered through a period of constant ups and downs, the difference in points narrowed little by little. They caught up once with seven and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter, and although they were trailing again, Yosei Ishimaru sank a three-point shot with 16 seconds left in the final minutes, sending the game into overtime.

However, Hiroshima Minami had multiple players committing the fourth foul. They continued to fight to the limit, but the team’s captain, Yuto Oda, who had the most points, was sent off for five fouls. In the end, I ran out of energy.

Hiroshima Minami participated in this tournament for the 19th time in 10 consecutive years, and achieved one win for the first time in six years. They fell one short of their goal of competing against Japan Airlines (Yamanashi), the national high school overall champion, in the third round. Still, he exemplified the “never give up fight” that is a model for high school basketball players on the national stage.
