Union Dominates Charleroi with 3-1 Win, Amoura Shines Again

Union took full advantage of Anderlecht’s loss of points. The Unionists won 1-3 against Charleroi thanks again to – you guessed it – a brilliant Mohamed Amoura. This time the Algerian scored twice again. Union takes 31 out of 33 and is six points clear.

Who will stop Union? It is a question that has been asked a lot in recent weeks, but we still do not have an answer. Charleroi tried to end the streak of 10 games without a defeat at Union on Sunday evening, but Mazzu lost with a clear 0-3 score against his ex-club.

And for that, the people of Brussels can once again thank sensation Mohamed Amoura. The 23-year-old Algerian scored twice again on Sunday evening, so he now has 11 goals in 12 games. Punishment.

In Charleroi, Amoura needed less than fifteen minutes to open his account. Heymans lingered too long with the ball in the box and lost the ball, Amoura finished it off nicely with an outside shot on the left. And whether he plays with confidence.

A dream start for Union, which again played an excellent match against Charleroi. Defensively it was good, Charleroi struggled to create real chances. And yet it should have always been 1-1 just after the half hour: suddenly Heymans was able to score all alone from inside the sixteen, but Castro-Montes threw himself into the path of the shot to prevent a goal being scored. If you want to gain something against Union, such opportunities really have to be created.

Amoura again

Because Union put an end to Charleroi’s hopes of gaining anything in the second half quite easily. Early on, the ball landed at Casper Terho’s feet after a clever collective attack, and the Finn simply scored: 0-2.

The spring was broken at Charleroi. It tried to force something, but it was just not good enough. Heymans quickly had the tying goal at the foot, but he shot wide.

Charleroi pushed a little more forward, which created more space at the back. And you don’t have to explain that to Mohamed Amoura twice: in minute 65 he was sent deep after a great ball from Castro-Montes, and the Algerian went at speed towards Koffi’s goal and also finished with control in the short corner. 0-3, match finally played.

The rest of the match was therefore superfluous, Guiagon’s 1-3 in injury time was only a cover for the bleeding at Charleroi, which is just above the danger zone with 17 points. Union’s thoughts can now turn to the crucial European match against Liverpool next Thursday.
