Uncertainty Looms Over Thomas Müller’s Future at FC Bayern

Former national player Dietmar Hamann does not believe that Thomas Müller will stay at FC Bayern beyond the end of his contract in the summer.

“My feeling tells me that the paths are parting,” said the 50-year-old in the football talk “Sky 90”.

In Hamann’s opinion, the driving force behind the decision against Müller could be coach Thomas Tuchel. “I think Tuchel would prefer it if he wasn’t there next year,” said the long-time professional of the German record champions.

Hamann explained that he noticed how annoyed the FC Bayern head coach was now reacting to questions about Müller’s status as a reservist. “It’s a club matter. You can’t let the coach answer these questions every week. You have to make a decision now at some point, I would say in winter at the latest.”

However, there is “probably not a right time to announce the decision, but certainly a wrong time,” emphasized Hamann. “This is a player who is more deserving than almost anyone else at FC Bayern – comparable to a Matthäus, Robben, Ribery or perhaps even more. He is an absolute identification figure.”

Will Thomas Müller extend his contract with FC Bayern “quickly”?

According to Hamann, Müller’s nomination for the 2024 home European Championship should be seen regardless of the situation at FC Bayern.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann will take the 34-year-old veteran with him, “regardless of whether he plays 15 games in the second half of the season or five. Because you know what you’re getting. He’ll be fit, he’ll bring himself to a certain level, he’ll be worth it the team – if the coach wants it,” said the expert.

Club president Herbert Hainer said on Sunday on “Bild-TV”, contradicting Hamann’s thesis, that Müller’s extension in Munich could happen “quickly”. “Thomas knows exactly what he has at FC Bayern, and we know what we have in Thomas,” said the former Adidas CEO.
