UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia Prevails in Round 4 of IBSA Next Gen Cup 2023/24

UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia (record 2-2) prevails in Round 4 of Group B of the IBSA Next Gen Cup 2023/24 against Estra Pistoia (record 2-2). The Emilians started better, given that the Suljanovic brothers immediately got to work from medium distance and Camara repelled the attacks of Biagini and his teammates from the dribble (5-11). Thanks to Kpadevi’s incursions and Keita’s centimeters, Estra immediately cancels the deficit but Camara again at the rim and a three-point play by I. Suljanovic makes it 11-16. Thanks to Biagini’s long-range baskets in transition, Pistoia completes the comeback at 18, Camara combines with El Hadji to put UNAHOTELS back ahead and, with the help of the usual Camara, they get back to +3 (20-23). At the end of the quarter, Santangelo tries to keep Pistoia there but thanks to Abreu Reggio Emilia extends to 22-27 after 10′ of the match.

The team coached by coach Menozzi then relies once again on Camara and his inventions from the dribble, Pistoia responds by finding Keita under the scoreboards and then his counterpart Abreu supports the 29-35 which keeps the Emilians with a cushion of advantage. However, the Tuscans didn’t give up and a nice mid-range basket from Biagini sparked a comeback that continued along the Kpadevi – Keita axis and was sealed by Cemmi’s overtaking at 36-35. Reggio, however, doesn’t accept it and turns on a back-and-forth by taking advantage of its long players Abreu and Deme El Hadji while Pistoia relies on the shooter Santi and an excellent Biagini in transition (43-44). At the end of the half, Abreu was caught again effectively under the scoreboards and made the Emilians extend to 43-46 after 20′ of the match.

At the start of the second half, Lusetti from the arc and Abreu again from below give Reggio Emilia the sprint, before El Hadji and Beltrami again in transition widen the gap to 47-57 against Biagini and his teammates. A nice dunk from Estra’s number 5 tries to give the Tuscans a boost, El Hadji responds effectively again under the scoreboards and also from three points and then O.Suljanovic updates the Emilian maximum lead to 50-68. Thanks to the accelerations of the wingers Santangelo and Kpadevi, Pistoia closes the gap a minimum, Yadde responds from the line and O.Suljanovic leaves Reggio comfortably ahead after 30′, even after Santi’s beautiful triple near the siren (58-73). Biagini then tries to carry the Tuscans on his shoulders, El Hadji continues to feast under the scoreboards and I.Suljanovic returns to shake the net with the long-range basket to make it 62-78 less than 7′ from the end. The number 19 of UNAHOTELS then unleashes himself from afar and both Keita and Santangelo cannot hope to mend the deficit. It ends 75-87.
