UEFA and Disney together until 2027 for the UEFA Playmakers programme

UEFA and Disney have announced the extension of the Disney-inspired UEFA Playmakers program until 2027. The initiative, supported by Disney stories, has already introduced tens of thousands of girls aged between five and eight to football across Europe.

UEFA Playmakers has had a major impact on associations across Europe: UEFA Playmakers sessions take place in 47 European associations and in over 3,800 locations. More than 73,000 girls have taken part in the programme, which has trained over 5,200 UEFA Playmakers coaches. Also in Italy, the FIGC, through the Youth and School Sector, launched the project in the spring of 2021. The activities are aimed at girls aged 5 to 8 who want to start their journey in the world of football. Through adventure, storytelling, imagination and a training idea based on Disney stories and its most famous characters, Playmakers aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle to excite and excite girls and bring them closer to the game of soccer.

The training sessions follow the stories of Disney hits ‘Incredibles 2’, ‘Frozen 2’, ‘Oceania’ and now also the animated musical comedy ‘Encanto’. Through numerous proposals that accompany the training sessions, the project aims to stimulate girls’ curiosity through play, keeping them active throughout the week and encouraging the involvement of family and friends.

More than 200 “Coach deliverers”, members of the FIGC-SGS staff and of the participating clubs throughout Italy had the opportunity to follow a specific training course on the Playmakers methodology thanks to the support of the SGS Coach Educators. In the first year of activity, two Playmakers “blocks” were held in around 30 companies throughout Italy, for a total of almost 400 training sessions involving more than 700 girls, between the first and second block, and more than 100 male and female coaches.
