U20 team wins World Cup opener against Japan

Austria’s U20 ice hockey team started the Division 1A World Championship (B-WM) in Budapest with a clear victory. The ÖEHV team defeated Japan 5:2 (2:1.3:0.0:1) on Sunday and is top of the table after the first day ex aequo with Kazakhstan. It continues on Monday (7.30 p.m.) against hosts Hungary.

Ian Scherzer in the power play (9th) and Jakob Lippitsch (18th) ensured a 2-0 lead, and Japan scored twelve seconds before the first break. With three goals within three minutes by Luca Erne (35th), Paul Reiner (37th) and Jonas Dobnig (38th), Philipp Pinter’s selection in the middle third made everything clear.
