The Council of Ministers has given the green light to the formation of the state trading company Train Port Barcelona, a 50/50 collaboration between Adif and the Port of Barcelona. This entity will focus on the management and development of the railway logistics node in the province of Barcelona, considered crucial to promoting freight transport in the Mediterranean corridor and internationally.

Various actions are contemplated in the Can Tunis railway complex, the La Llagosta Intermodal and Logistics Terminal, the future Intermodal Terminal of the Port of Barcelona and the Intermodal Terminal of the Railway Highway. Both parties will coordinate the planning and development of these infrastructures with the aim of optimizing investments and efficiently managing resources to improve the competitiveness of services.

Specifically, Train Port Barcelona arises from a collaboration protocol signed in October 2020, which included the construction of new southern accesses, both road and rail, to the port enclave. The Minister of Development, the Generalitat, Adif, State Ports and the Port of Barcelona participated in this agreement.

From now on, the company will be in charge of the management and operation of the Barcelona Port Railway Management Center (CGFB), coordinating the services between Can Tunis and the railway terminals of the Port of Barcelona, in addition to providing train maneuvering and operations services. .

A crucial task will be the construction and operation of the future Intermodal Terminal of the Port of Barcelona, with an investment of 22 million euros. This facility will have a concession period of 50 years and will have modern infrastructure such as four tracks, two gantry cranes and an area to store containers.

In addition, Train Port Barcelona will manage the La Llagosta Intermodal and Logistics Terminal under a lease for another 50 years, with an initial investment of 25 million euros. The company will also have a minority stake in the future Railway Highway terminal, located in the old Llobregat riverbed.

The president of the Port of Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó, has highlighted the innovation and environmental, connectivity and cost efficiency that this new commercial company represents, underlining the importance of cooperation and co-responsibility in railway port management. Salvadó expresses his gratitude to Adif for his collaboration in this project, which represents an opportunity for growth and improvement for both organizations, as well as for the national economy.
