Top NFL Picks for Week 14 and NHL Bet for Saturday

Here are my two favorite NFL picks for Week 14, as well as my favorite NHL bet for Saturday.

PICK 1 IN THE NFL

THE LAS VEGAS RAIDERS BY +3 POINTS

My top NFL pick for Week 14 is the Las Vegas Raiders by +3 points at home against the Minnesota Vikings.

The only thing that worries me about this game is the return of star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. But that’s really all.

The Raiders have shown combativeness since the dismissal of their head coach. To me, they played much better football under Antonio Pierce. The team has gone 2-2 since the change, but both losses came against tough opponents: at Miami and against the Chiefs.

The battle of the quarterbacks will feature Joshua Dobbs against Aidan O’Connell. Dobbs started the season on a high note with the Cardinals, throwing four touchdown passes against no interceptions in the first four games.

Then the quality of his play declined significantly, as evidenced by the fact that he had four touchdowns against five interceptions.

The team got rid of him and we could see a similar pattern with Minnesota. Dobbs did a fantastic job in his first two games with the Vikings, beating the Falcons on the road and winning 27-19 against the Saints. Then Minnesota suffered a tough 21-20 loss to the Broncos, a game in which Dobbs was just “okay.”

It all came crashing down in his last game, a disappointing 12-10 loss to the Bears, in which Dobbs was intercepted four times.

Less than 45% chance

Which version of Joshua Dobbs will we see this weekend? In my opinion, he will be more hesitant after making so many mistakes last week.

Asking the Vikings to win by a margin of at least four points on the road seems like something that has far less than a 45% chance of happening, which is why I prefer to side with Las Vegas at +3 points in this meeting.

Another reason I’m putting my hard-earned money on the Raiders is the fact that O’Connell did a solid job in his last outing against the Chiefs.

He completed 23 of 33 passes for 248 yards.

PICK 2 IN THE NFL

THE NEW YORK JETS BY +4 POINTS

My second official NFL pick the New York Jets by +4 points against the Houston Texans.

Rookie CJ Stroud has been nothing short of spectacular this season. Unfortunately, he just lost one of his best weapons, Tank Dell, who suffered a fractured fibula.

Interestingly, Houston has gone 1-4 in games in which they have been established as favorites.

I’m aware that betting on the Jets is scary considering their putrid offense. Over their last six competitions, they have scored an average of 9.7 points. It’s terrible!

As strange as the following sentence may seem, Zach Wilson’s return at quarterback could be a good thing. Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian are very bad. At least Wilson has had a few games in the past where he did a good job.

He can make great passes and remind you why he was a first round pick. But, of course, he also makes you scratch your head after seeing some of his passes and some of his bad decisions.

They will fight hard

I don’t think the New York players have given up and will throw in the towel, especially in front of their home crowd. Even though they are almost eliminated, I believe the Jets will fight hard this Sunday.

I’m not claiming New York will pull off the upset, but I honestly believe it will be a dog fight and it’s unlikely they’ll lose by more than four points, which is why I’m betting the Jets at +4.

NHL PICKS

THE NEW YORK ISLANDERS

In the NHL, my favorite bet is on the New York Islanders.

Yes, I believe they will end Los Angeles’ incredible 11-game winning streak before opening the season, which is a new league record.

The Kings will play the third of a four-game East Coast trip. They’ve had quite a bit of traveling to do recently, while the Islanders have been home for about a week. This gives New York an advantage in terms of rest.

A system that gives them the advantage

I also like the Islanders because they qualify under “The Hot Scorers” betting system. Based on past data, it is a good idea to bet AGAINST the away team if they have scored more than four goals in each of their last three matches.

In this case, the Kings have scored exactly four goals in each of their last four games, so following the rules we should bet against them.

So far this season, this betting strategy has produced a 14-10 record, with an average odds of 2.0.
