It wasn’t Tom Pidcock’s day in the Hulst World Cup. The Briton crashed in the very first corner, after which he had to catch up. He did not respect the stragglers he had to overtake.
Pidcock crashed after just a few seconds and, to make matters worse, broke his derailleur and shifter. However, it was not the end of cross yet, because the Briton walked three minutes to the equipment station to finish the race. He even started a big catch-up race.
During that catch-up race, Pidcock had to pass several stragglers. On the second lap, when he was driving for 73rd place, he wanted to pass Ville Merlov. Pidcock hit this 18-year-old Swede with his head, giving him room to get inside. The images sparked outrage at X.
Ultimately, Pidcock finished 25th in the cross, three minutes and 44 seconds behind winner Mathieu van der Poel.
