Today PK in mountain skiing was cancelled, yesterday victories for Odermat and Šifrin – Winter sports – Sportacentrs.com

Unfortunately, the scandal with the cancellation of the World Cup stages continues. Unsuitable track conditions after overnight rainfall and concern for the safety of the athletes were the reasons why both the men’s and women’s races were canceled today. Therefore, ten competitions have already been canceled this season. This especially affects men, who have only had two events – slalom and giant slalom, but no speed discipline yet.

For men, the masterful and titled Swiss Marko Odermats won his 25th career on Saturday, who, despite his mistakes, was able to win a fairly convincing first place in the giant slalom held in Valdiser. Just like three weeks ago in the slalom in Austria, also yesterday in the giant slalom in France, the Austrian Marko Schwartz won the second place, winning the 21st award in his career and becoming the overall leader.

Meanwhile, a big success for the third-placed Andorian Ioan Verdu, who earned his first award without even reaching the top ten in the PK stages until now. True, Verdu was ninth in the giant slalom at the Olympic Games in China last year. Norwegian Henriks Kristoffersen slipped from the vice-leader positions to 8th place with a slow second race.

Yesterday, in the women’s downhill in St. Moritz, in a similar battle with two Italians, the first place was won by the American Mikaela Shiffrin, who won the 91st career victory and the fourth in this discipline, thanks to a very well done middle part of the track. As a result, the US alpine skier increased her lead in the PK overall standings after nine starts, which already reaches almost 200 points over the closest follower.

The other two finishers finished less than two-tenths of a second behind the winner, with Sofia Gojja, the convincing winner of Friday’s SuperG, beating Federica Brignoni, who finished second overall, by 0.02 seconds.

The German Emma Eicher, who celebrated her 20th anniversary a month ago, entered the top ten for the third time in her career, the first time she did it downhill, while the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, who won the title, remained in 13th place this time.
