Three Lyon supporters in police custody for monkey cries and Nazi salutes in Marseille

The use of video surveillance images allowed the first arrests as part of the investigation into the monkey cries and Nazi salutes launched in the stands of the Stade-Vélodrome on October 29 before OM-OL (finally canceled after the stone-throwing of the because Lyonnais). According to information from RTL confirmed by Radio France, three OL supporters were taken into police custody on Tuesday.

These three supporters are aged 27, 33 and 34 years old. They present themselves as technical employees or executives. Two of them declared themselves close to the Mezza group, a small far-right group.

According to the Marseille prosecutor’s office, cited by franceinfo, they are being prosecuted for “racial insult because of origin, ethnicity, nation, race or religion”, “public provocation to hatred or violence because of origin, ethnicity, nation, race or religion” and “introduction, wearing or exhibition in a sports venue of badges, signs or symbols inciting hatred against a person on grounds of of origin, ethnicity, nation, race or religion.
