For the time being, Ajax is not making rigorous decisions at the top of the football company, Supervisory Board Chairman Michael van Praag confirmed at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders. This means that Maurits Hendriks (Chief Sports Officer) and Susan Lenderink (financial director) will stay on for the time being.

The position of Hendriks and Lenderink is under serious pressure, but Ajax wants to wait for the outcome of the external investigation initiated by KPMG. The law firm is investigating, among other things, the transfer practices of former football affairs director Sven Mislintat, who left a havoc in Amsterdam.

Hendriks had a decisive role in the appointment of Mislintat, who impressed the Chief Sports Officer during various lectures in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. De Telegraaf claims that Hendriks is being vomited on by Ajax employees at De Toekomst.

Ajax has certainly not been successful in the last three transfer periods (including the winter window in which Gerónimo Rulli was recruited). As financial director, Lenderink signed all purchases, for which Ajax entered into commitments of no less than 400 million euros.

Lenderink also approved the many five-year contracts that Mislintat awarded to its purchases. However, the financial director will remain in place for the time being, because Van Praag has decided in consultation with the Supervisory Board that there will be no dismissals until the results of the KPMG investigation are known.

Supervisory Board chairman Pier Eringa decided to resign after the defeat against Feyenoord (0-4 loss), but the other commissioners who were responsible for assessing Mislintat’s policy are still employed at Ajax. This concerns Annette Mosman, Georgette Schlick and Cees van Oevelen, who can remain seated for the time being.

The Supervisory Board has now been strengthened with Van Praag as chairman and Leo van Wijk as additional staff. Danny Blind will also join Ajax again on January 1. The former defender has been appointed as technical commissioner. That role was filled this summer by Jan van Halst, who is now interim general manager. Van Halst will permanently leave Ajax in March, when Alex Kroes, who was acquired from AZ, can start.
