Nicolás Cuestas won the popular San Silvestre Vallecana race, a test over a 10-kilometer route held in Madrid with more than 41,000 runners on the last day of 2023, which was the prelude to the professional race.

The 37-year-old Uruguayan Olympian had set the best time in the history of the race 365 days ago, when he stopped the clock at 29 minutes and 18 seconds. On this occasion, in the 59th edition, he repeated the result and record to the joy of the Corredores Club.

Cuestas, who distanced himself from Mohamed Massat after the fifth kilometer and ran the second half of the test alone, completed the route in 28 minutes and 48 seconds. Massat came second after just over half a minute (29:22) and Jorge Soto third (30:28).

The Spanish Lorena Lorenzo, with a time of 34:30, was the best among the ladies.

“I’m very happy. I expected to run more or less in this time, but it was harder than I expected because I ran on Thursday in Móstoles. It’s my second time here and the number of people who come out to cheer is impressive. Running with this crowd is something exceptional,” said the Uruguayan.
