Actor Ivan Trojan will play for basketball champion Opava in the last game of the year in the league. The 59-year-old holder of seven Czech Lions will wear the shirt of the Silesian team on Saturday, December 30, in a home match against newcomers to the top flight, Písek. The Opava club announced this on its website today.
This will not be the first such experience for Trojan. In June 2009, he played seven minutes in the last round of the Second Football League for Bohemians 1905, who he supports. Now he will get an opportunity in basketball, which he was devoted to in his youth, from the Opava coach and his friend Petr Czudek. He has been preparing for the match for some time and goes to practice in Opava.
“Recently, Čouda (Czudek) and I talked about how great an experience the football match for Bohemka was for me. It was great. The only thing that could top it is a basketball game in the league for Opava. Basketball is my sport, it means for me, more than football. Čouda took it,” said Trojan.
“I try to train as much as possible. I prepare individually in Prague. When time permits, I will come to Opava. The last time I was here was four days and I had one or two training sessions a day,” said the popular actor. “At my age, it’s harder for the body to get used to it. I try to do everything so that it’s not embarrassing, but people have the greatest experience possible,” he said.
“Ivan is a perfectionist, he always has big goals. His start for Opava is not a shot in the dark, that he will do two squats, two push-ups and go play,” said Czudek.
As part of the preparation, Trojan also modified the life management. “When I thought I was going all out, I stretched my calf muscle. In addition, my knee started to hurt. I realized that I have to approach it differently than when I ended up in Sparta’s youth team. I have to do everything with deliberation ,” said Trojan, who in his youth played in the Prague team with the later representative and coach Michal Ježdík.
According to Czudek, Trojan’s appearance in the match will not be just an episodic one. “It’s not like there will be a rebound, Ivan grabs the ball, waves and leaves. If we thought like that, he would play an All star game, where he defends less and it’s not about the result. Ivan might even enjoy it more,” said Czudek .
“I’m trying to come up with a script. But it’s not a movie or a play. I don’t know how the match will develop. We have to know how we’re going to play in defense and how we’re going to play in attack. Specifically, we’ll adjust it after Christmas. Our new signing will join the team four days before the match. He will appear on the scoreboard several times during the match,” said the coach of Opava, which has won the last eight league matches and leads the table.
The match will also financially support the Cystic Fibrosis Club, which Trojan has supported for a long time.
