The Tim Boyle Experiment Comes to an End: Jets Release Quarterback After Just Two Starts

The Tim Boyle experience did not last in New York. After just two starts with the Jets, the organization has reportedly decided to release the quarterback.

To replace Boyle on the 53-man roster, the Jets reportedly signed veteran quarterback Brett Rypien, who played on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.

Head coach Robert Saleh has still not named his starter for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. The other two quarterbacks in the organization are Zach Wilson and Trevor Siemian. However, sources said Monday that Wilson would not want to return to the field.

In two starts, Boyle completed 41 of 63 passes for 327 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. One of them was returned for a 99-yard touchdown during a completely failed “Hail Mary” attempt.

Saleh didn’t directly criticize Boyle after Sunday’s 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but he was clearly unhappy. Boyle, replaced in the fourth quarter by Siemian, was removed after an interception. Afterward, Saleh said there were “a lot of missed opportunities” in the aerial game – a hidden reference to Boyle’s inability to spot his receivers.

The Jets (4-8) have lost their last five games and have scored just 45 points during this ugly stretch.
