Different stages

The 4th Vuelta Costa del Sol Regatta, Senda Azul Trophy, has been resolved with the three planned stages, the first of them between Málaga and Sotogrande of 52 miles, the second between Sotogrande and Marina del Este in Granada, the longest with a total of 79 miles, and the last this Saturday of 30 miles between Marina del Este and Málaga, the more complicated by the absence of wind that caused agony that lasted until the end. The boats ‘Paul Chimene’ and Ignacio Bethem’s Dehler 36 ‘Aquilón’ barely entered in a photo finish almost touching the time limit.

In total there have been more than 160 miles to complete a demanding regatta between two-handed boats, along a very changing and technical coast that requires the greatest concentration and sense of smell to correctly read the navigation area, in order to take advantage of the best conditions that help achieve the goal.

First steps

On Wednesday, December 6, The first departure was at 10:05 a.m. with the east facing Torremolinos, after a few miles by motor seeking the wind. From there, the fleet sailed at 7/8 knots of medium intensity to Sotogrande, where the first ship to arrive, the ‘Seabery Dralion’, did so around seven in the afternoon. The next day, the race committee led by officer Carlos Muñoz Villareal started at 11:05 am in the vicinity of the port of Sotogrande with a northerly wind that would fall very soon.

With little wind intensity, the fleet managed to pass Marbella and reach Calaburra, a place where the expected west wind made its entrance that accompanied the fleet until its entry into Marina del Este. For the second day in a rowthe first ship to arrive was the ‘Seabery Dralion’which arrived at 2:26 hours.

This stage already suffered loss of three ships, the ‘Amor Fati’ of the CNM Benalmádena that was stranded on the beach half a mile from Sotogrande, and the ships ‘Suka’ of the RCN of Algeciras and ‘Victoriagross’ of the RC Mediterráneo due to a broken inverter, the first one and the largest one, the one from Malaga. . After a day of well-deserved rest, on Saturday the boats left Marina del Este heading to Malaga looking for conditions until they could finally depart under minimal conditions.

Last section

This third stage would change the course on board some ships, the ‘Seabery Dralion’ on ORC 1 and ‘Paul Chimene’ in ORC 2. After two stages winning in real and compensated, Murube and Flethes were surpassed in real by the mini Transat ‘Vmax’ of Ignacio del Castillo and Leo Mérida (independent) who won the race by placing two more boats up to fourth place signed the ‘Seabery Dralion’.

Philippe Vigneron and Pedro Lanzat as they broke their unbeatability in the third stage with a third, behind last year’s winner, Jorge de Torres’ First 34.7 ‘Elamar’ boat, which achieved a very profitable victory for its interests, and Pablo Valenzuela’s Malbec 360 ‘Uxama’.

‘Elamar’ achieved the long-awaited podium by qualifying third in class ORC 2 along with the ‘Uxama’ and ‘Paul Chimene’, while in ORC 1, the income also allows a solvent victory for the ‘Seabery Dralion’ over the 53-foot ‘Aviador’ with Gabriel Medem and Pablo Villar, second, and the ‘Vmax’ third .
