Slovakia will be the first and quite possibly crucial opponent of the Czech team in the basic group of the World Cup. But that does not enter the tournament in an optimal mood…

The Slovaks did not get a sniff from the strong Finns in the opening warm-up game and now they played a very unconvincing match against the Germans, who are among the outsiders of this year’s championship. In the end, he was good offensively, but poor defensively…

The Germans found two two-goal scorers: Thanks to Schreiner, they led 2:0 after the first period and, thanks to Oswald, even 5:2 at the beginning of the third period! Such a result would be tantamount to embarrassment from the Slovaks’ point of view, but coach Ivan Feneš’s wards took the lead and showed an excellent turnaround. They equalized in the 52nd minute and used a power play for the third time in extra time, when Dalibor Dvorský, one of the biggest stars of the selection, leaned into Maxim Štrbák’s pass (1+2).

The second victory was scored by Canada, but the Swiss were well warmed up in two thirds. They just couldn’t manage the middle one, conceding four goals and eventually losing 3:6. Owen Beck, the only returnee from the last golden championship, scored two goals in the jersey of the favored overseas team. Both teams prevailed even in their own weakness.

Canada scored this way after Macklin Celebrini received a higher penalty. The likely first pick of the next NHL draft ran into Leo Braillard’s guardrail and will now wait to see if the disciplinary panel will exclude her from the start of the championship. Braillard did not return to the match.
