The Role of Cotton and Sport in Pordenone 1839-1957: A Historical Conference

Next Friday, 15 December 2023, the third conference of the second cycle of meetings on History will be held in the Casa del Popolo in Torre di Pordenone with the title “Cotton and sport in Pordenone 1839-1957”

THE SPEAKERS
Tiziano Barbisin, author of Quintet base 1915-2015. History of basketball in Torre from its origins to the present day, Pordenone, ASD Torre Basket, 2015 and FIP FVG “basketball above the lines” Award 2019. Author of the permanent exhibition of the Excellences of Sport of Torre (38 different disciplines and 140 athletes represented – 2017). Creator and curator of various exhibitions concerning themes of the Torre district and of the exhibition on the 700 years of the Pordenone Hospital (2019). Scholar of the history of Torre, among the founders of Torre Basket (1982) and the Torre Association (2017).

Enzo Pagura, editor of www.storiastoriepn.it and historian of the formation of the Pordenone working class, with particular reference to the role of women and immigrant minorities and non-Catholic religious confessions. Scholar of the history of Torre, among the founders of the sports associations Skorpion Judo Torre (1973) and UISP Nuoto Cordenons (1981).

THE PROGRAM

TIZIANO BARBISIN, will talk about the beginnings of basketball and other sports in Torre di Pordenone, the role of Maestro Baldissera, the local sporting excellences (in particular Agosti, Degan and the pioneering athletes of cycling, boxing, football) and the function carried out by the CRAL .

ENZO PAGURA will speak on sport – with reference to judo, the Cral di Torre workers’ sports centre, swimming and rowing – about which he wrote: Il Dopolavoro Attilio Meneghel, 2006; Argo and the spirit of Judo, 2010; The way of compliance. Judo Masters in the North East, 2011 (all published in Pordenone at the Sartor typography) and a series of articles on the website www.storiastoriepn.it, which appeared in 2023.
