The legendary Lommel motocross track might have to be closed due to noise – Motoru sports – Sportacentrs.com

In a sense, Lommel can even be called the center of European motocross, considering that many world championship teams are based here. On the other hand, the track itself has become legendary due to the many races held there, and is also considered one of the most difficult in the world. MXGP competitions have also been held in Lommel for many years.

However, the continued existence of the track is now at risk due to increased noise levels.

“If the conditions are not eased, our track will be closed from January 1,” track manager Jāks Vanvelthovens admitted in an interview with the media “hbvl.be”.

Also next year, it is planned to hold the stage of the World Motocross Championship in Lommel, scheduled for July 27 and 28. On the other hand, the contract for hosting the MXGP for this track is until 2026.

“It is possible to apply for a separate permit to hold a race, so in principle it is not a problem,” Vanvelthoven explains. “But Lommel is more than a world championship venue. Lommel is the heart of European motocross. And it has to stay that way. It’s working hard to keep the noise levels down. That’s why I’m asking for another year or two.”
