The Intense Action of the Judo Championships in Yverdon

In Yverdon at the salle omnisports des Isles, over 350 judokas gathered to compete in the championships. The air in the hall was noticeably filled with adrenaline and sweat. There was a calm, but also tense atmosphere. After the weigh-in at 8:30 a.m., participants were divided into their weight classes. Shortly afterwards, the opponents in the competition were determined.

The sport of judo also has a long history

Jigoro Kano’s flag floated above the mats, giving the entire arena a traditional historical impression. The organization was very well set up so that we were able to start the first encounter at 9:48 a.m. In the first fight, Ronja Gschwend from the Judo Club Kreuzlingen competed against her familiar opponent Jana Bidermann from Lyss. Ronja and Jana didn’t give each other anything in the fight, they were both active and tried to force each other onto the mat again and again. At the end Ronja was unfortunately forced to the mat by a Harai Goshi. So Jana scored her ippon and won the fight. The first fight had demanded a lot from Ronja, so she was only able to recover briefly for the second encounter.

In the fight for the bronze medal, Ronja had to assert herself against Eliane Schürch from JJJS Lyss. At 10:27 a.m. the two judokas competed against each other on mat 4. Ronja initially tried to launch a throw, but was thrown to the mat by a counterattack and her opponent Schürch fixed her sideways in the holder. Ronja was unable to free herself from Schürch’s hold. Despite intensive twisting and turning, Ronja was unable to free herself in 10 seconds and lost in this encounter. In the end Ronja qualified in 5th place. She is proud to have taken part in this competitive tournament. It was important to her to represent the Asahi Kai from Kreuzlingen at the tournament. The field of participants was strong, but luck and skill played their own role. Ronja takes the experience into her tournament backpack and can incorporate it into her training.
