The specter of a premium tour is haunting the tennis circuit. And Taylor Fritz I already have an idea of what this could look like.

Taylor Fritz has a suggestion

Taylor Fritz played 77 matches last season, including his commitments on the ATP tour and those on the American team at the United Cup. Strictly speaking, the latter was also part of the tour. The USA’s number one was in the grid at a total of 26 tournaments, including at smaller events like in Munich.

Apparently that was a little too much for Fritz. In theory. The 26-year-old said a few days ago that he would be positive about a Premium Tour that would result from a merger between the four majors and the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. Fritz wanted to add something to this comment. For all the people who “can’t read,” as he wrote on the short message service X.

Fritz wants a maximum of 14 tournaments

“When I talk about my own or premium tour, I don’t just mean the top players. But, as already said, the “main top tour” should consist of the best 100 to 120 players who, like the best 125 players on the PGA Tour, receive a tour card. And at the end of the year a few people leave. And a few on.” So a closed society that Taylor Fritz has in mind.

Fritz has twelve to 14 events in mind as the optimal number of tournaments, all with a 128 grid. Which would correspond to a significant reduction in its own burden and that of its competitors.

He doesn’t assume that this will ever happen. But if they did, it would also be easier for fans to follow the sport.
