The Best Darts Match of 2023: Luke Humphries vs. Joe Cullen

The last match of the year was perhaps also the best of 2023. It was the battle between Luke Humphries and Joe Cullen that came in a sudden death leg.

But before it got to that point, there was this awkward moment.

For those who went to bed early and missed it, a summary of the final phase of this competition can be viewed. We definitely recommend watching these images again because without spoiling anything, it was an incredibly exciting duel as you can look back on these images.

We have of course already had many great matches this year, starting with the World Cup final on January 3, 2023 in which we saw the best leg ever. Van Gerwen missed a 9-darter on double 12, after which the later world champion succeeded.

It was one of the first matches of the year that went down in the history books and this match can now be added to that list.

Humphries also had a very remarkable match earlier in this world championship because prior to this bizarre thriller he came face to face with Ricardo Pietreczko. The German was supported by the audience, which was largely filled with our Eastern neighbors.

Luke Humphries managed to turn around the game in which he was 1-3 behind. He won the match 4-3 and screams of emotions addressed to the audience were unleashed by Cool Hand Luke.

Including this match, it is already a bizarre World Cup for the player who was designated in advance by the Bookies as the favorite for the title. He has now lost that role of favorite, but perhaps that can help him get through match after match.

Dave Chisnall will be waiting for him on Monday January 1 and he will again be able to play in the last game of that round.
