Family trips
“I really like playing tournaments, for me it is very important to play many. Traveling is never a problem for us at all, we always try to carry as little luggage as possible, it’s what works for us. We have never been stressed about baby things or food for the kids. Everything we need, we buy in the respective countries we travel to. We never had any difficulties, so we faced the trips quite relaxed.”
Goals beyond 36 years
“I always set goals for myself, although now the objectives are very different from before. At the moment, the important thing is that my children are well, Charlotte already plays tennis very well, I try to be an example for her. Enjoying all this is also a goal, that we all enjoy it, that my daughters see the world through the tour and enjoy it. I try to be the same after every game, no matter the result, win or lose. I don’t want them to think that if their mother loses it’s bad, I want them to experience it themselves when they grow up. “She wants to be the next champion.”
Leave your daughters at home?
“I wouldn’t be on tour anymore if I had to leave my kids at home. Going to a tournament alone would be unfeasible for me, that wouldn’t be me. The scene fits perfectly as we see it right now, I play with Charlotte every morning and she loves it. I don’t want to put pressure on her either, we are very careful with that, although she has a contract with Nike. It is important that she has fun, that she loves tennis and enjoys it. We train every day, but it is something normal for her, but I think she doesn’t even realize that we are training. At her age, that is the most important thing.”

“The school does everything online, her math teacher only knows her through the screen. Every two or three weeks, the teacher calls her and gives her a test, we are also in charge of sending her homework every day. We are very flexible in terms of time, we can do schoolwork both at seven in the morning and at seven in the afternoon. “Anything fits us.”

“I know that many people will not be able to lead this life, for me it is something normal. Charlotte has to go to school, that’s just the way it is, so for us it makes sense to have this life. Online education is the solution and we have to help her, she cannot do it alone, although it is not always easy. I’m not a teacher, but my mother is, that always helps. “Sometimes she is the one who helps him.”
Without vacations you can also be happy
“My husband and I enjoy each month of the calendar, nor do we seek to avoid responsibilities. We don’t feel quite uncomfortable without the children, even when we leave them with the grandmother it is a strange feeling on the fly. Without children it is as if we are missing something. When we travel to tournaments, for example, everyone comes up to us asking how we are or where the kids are. In reality, what we want is to spend every second with them.”
Excitement to continue a little more
“I don’t think this can end, I am currently in my best moment. I’m still fit, I’m having fun and I’m fine. Charlotte is living her dream, everyone jokes that she should play until she starts. This would mean six or seven more years of professional tennis. Who knows, now Cecilia is also starting to play, we may be on tour for a long time. At the moment I’m not thinking about the end of my career, I just want to stay healthy and for my family to continue enjoying this trip.”
