The basketball players from Syntainics MBC can’t go beyond the role of scorers in front of their home crowd. On Boxing Day, coach Pedrag Krunic’s protégés lost to newly promoted SC Rasta Vechta 74:100 (42:53) and left the floor as losers for the sixth time in the seventh home game of the season. The Weißenfels team missed another opportunity to gain breathing room in the fight against relegation.
The home team started the game well, led 25:21 after eleven minutes and kept things open until 38:39 (17th). But in the last three minutes of the second quarter, Vechta made the preliminary decision with a 14:4 run to make it 42:53. The Central Germans never recovered from this setback and were unable to seriously threaten their opponents in any phase of the encounter, especially due to their weak defense. Of Vechta’s 24 attempts beyond the three-point line, eleven ended up in the Weißenfels basket. Even from close range, 27 of the guests’ 38 throws were successful.
Tommy Kuhse (22), Xeyrius Williams (16) and Chip Flanigan (12) played the biggest role in the guests’ success. Diante Baldwin (18), Charles Callison, Chris Ebou-Ndow (13 each) and John Bryant (10) scored the most points for the Central Germans.
