In a conversation with “Latvijas Televīzija”, the president of the Swedish Olympic Committee, Hans von Utmans, commented on the next round of selection of the country’s application to host the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.

“It’s disappointing, of course. There were high hopes because it seemed like we had [kopā ar Latviju] is a very good offer. We wanted to show the world that Sweden, together with Latvia, can offer sustainable games in environmental, financial and social terms. Apparently, that wasn’t enough.”

It was previously reported that Sweden submitted an application to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for candidacy for hosting the 2030 Games, which provided that the athletics competitions could take place on the Sigulda track.

However, the IOC has started a “targeted dialogue” with France, where the 2030 OS is likely to be held. The country’s offer includes Meribel, Courchevel and Valdezières for downhill skiing and the Olympic Village and ice skating competitions in Nice, with the remaining sports being held in Laclise.
