Swabian Duo: The New Hopefuls for Germany’s National Football Team

With Swabian help to a summer fairy tale 2.0?

Our home European Championship begins in seven months (June 14th, opening game in Munich against Scotland). While the DFB team is in a low form, the whole of Germany is discussing new hopefuls for the squad of national coach Julian Nagelsmann (36). And HE has a clear opinion about who should be nominated: record national player Lothar Matthäus (62, 150 international matches).

He wants Chris Führich (25) and Deniz Undav (27) in the national jersey!

In his “Sky” column, Matthäus writes: “Führich has already been invited to the national team twice, and Undav is also important to keep an eye on. If they continue to perform like this and Stuttgart gets their teeth into the top, you have to worry about them.”

The duo is playing an extremely successful season with VfB Stuttgart. Under coach Sebastian Hoeneß (41), the Swabians developed into a contender for European business (third place in the Bundesliga).

Despite the canceled game, “Bayern couldn’t sleep because they were laughing!”

Führich was in the starting line-up on the left wing in every game (three goals and five assists). Attacker Undav was initially a substitute for top striker Guirassy (27), but became the focus after his injury (eight goals and two assists).

Führich celebrated his DFB debut in Nagelsmann’s debut against the USA (3-1) and was substituted on shortly before the end. The offensive man was also nominated for the international matches against Turkey (2:3) and in Austria (0:2), but had to cancel due to a cold.

Which country does Deniz Undav play for?

Deniz Undav would be ready for his DFB debut and recently told BILD: “Yes, that is my dream.”

However, it will be exciting to see which country Undav will play for. He has a German and a Turkish passport (his father’s home country). Undav: “It would be nice to play for one national team and the other. But I would like to be there at the home European Championships.”

Lothar Matthäus calls for German virtues

In his column, Matthäus is also happy about our U17’s World Cup title – and takes our men to task: “I don’t want to compare them with the senior national team, but from the attitude of how they fought so selflessly for each other, how They played together, we missed all of that with the men in the last big tournaments.”

Maybe two Swabians will soon bring these virtues back…
