Success at the December 2023 Avantis Cup: Young Judokas Shine at La Pocatière Competition

The December 2023 edition of the Avantis Cup was held last Saturday at the La Pocatière comprehensive school, where nearly forty young people met for the occasion. The Judo Tani Club of Rivière-du-Loup was represented by around fifteen young people, while the Judo Club of La Pocatière had 22.

This competition was aimed at the U8, U10, U12 and U14 categories for white to yellow/orange belts. Remember that the Avantis Cup aims to familiarize young people with the environment of a judo competition.

Several high-level athletes from the La Pocatière club have participated in this competition in the past, including Olympian Marylise Lévesque, sisters Ève and Alix Renaud-Roy, medalists at the Canadian level, as well as Jasmin Bélanger. All have since become black belts.

On December 16, thirteen Avantis Cups were won, including three by young people from the Rivière-du-Loup club. The other ten were won by Hubert Lemieux, Joseph Dionne, Geneviève Lavoie, Émile Bochud and Théo Bonenfant de La Pocatière; Jules Dufresne and Alexandre Létourneau of Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies; Jean-Benoît Anctil of Sainte-Louise; Félix Desjardins of Saint-Onésime-d’Ixworth; Charles Tessier-Lizotte of Saint-Pascal.

Each young person was classified by age and weight category. Alexandre Létourneau with 27 points and Charles Tessier-Lizotte with 30 points are the two judokas who stood out the best during the competition.

The Avantis Group has been an important partner for several years for these sporting events. Formerly, the event was called the Dynaco Cup. The next edition will take place on Saturday April 27, 2024.
