Success and Progress: A Recap of the Gauls’ Fall Sporting Season

As the end of the fall session dawns, the Gauls from ITAQ and Cégep de La Pocatière take stock of a sporting season rich in lessons and success.

Badminton mixte

The Gaulois badminton team had a first half of the season that lived up to expectations. In the team component, the Gauls obtained a victory against the Portageurs du Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup and also experienced fiercely contested matches against the Faucons du Cégep de Lévis and the Pionniers du Cégep de Rimouski. In the individual section, veteran Jordan Robichaud stood out in particular with a quarter-final in men’s singles.

Benoit Fraser, head coach, highlights the dedication of his team: “All members of the team show remarkable commitment to training and competitions. The progression of the team’s level is worthy of note. We can’t wait to see what happens next in the coming weeks. »

Women’s volleyball — division 2

The Cégep de La Pocatière women’s collegiate volleyball team has returned to training and competition with great energy and determination. Despite a very difficult start to the season marked by several defeats and some injuries, the Gauloises do not give up and continue to fight to achieve their development objectives.

The coaching team says they are proud of their players and their team spirit: “They showed a lot of resilience and courage in the face of adversity. They have managed to stay united and support each other. They still have a lot of work to do, but we are convinced that they will improve as the matches go on.”

Basketball masculin — division 3

The Gauls in basketball concluded the first half of the season with a victory against the Panthers of Mérici. Constantly progressing since the start of the season, the team has shown a lot of character, even in defeat. The head coach, Michaël Guignard, says he is confident for the future. Matches will resume at the end of January 2024.

Cross-country

The mixed cross country team had quite the racing season. With more than twenty runners in its ranks, the energy was there and we could see constant progress among the athletes. Among the runners, several stood out

throughout the season. Note that five runners and four runners were able to take part in the provincial championships which took place in Rawdon at the end of October.

Cheerleading

The cheerleading team is in its inaugural season. She also made her debut during the first competition of the season which took place on December 3 at the Cégep de Sainte-Foy.

“It was something of an icebreaker for our athletes. For many of them, it was their first competitive experience. We saw a nice progression between the first and second presentation of our routine. This bodes well for the future,” says Cassandra Gaudreau, head coach. The next competition is scheduled to take place on February 17, 2024 in Trois-Rivières.

Football

The Gaulois – Football season has made many people dream. For the first time since 2005, a playoff game was hosted at home. A heartbreaking defeat against the Cégep de Lanaudière Triades put an end to this remarkable season.

“Our players will remember their 2023 football season for a long time. They have something to be proud of: a record of six wins and two losses is truly the result of hard work for the Gauls,” underlines Marc Chouinard, head coach. . The team has already been working for several weeks on recruitment for the next season which looks very promising.
