Strasbourg’s Alex Lanier to compete in Syed Modi International semi-final

A little less than a month after narrowly failing in his first World Tour Super 300 semi-final, on November 4 at the Hylo Open in Saarbrücken, Strasbourg’s Alex Lanier, 49th in the world in singles, will attempt for the second time to reach the final of a tournament of this level this Saturday at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow (India).

Friday noon in the quarter-finals, the 2022 European junior champion masterfully dominated the Malaysian Soong Joo Ven, 74th, whom he had never met (21-16, 21-17). His second entry into the final four of a Super 300 will therefore allow him to take on Saturday, in an unprecedented duel, the Japanese Kenta Nishimoto, 12th, seeded n°2 and winner this year of another Super 300 , the Spanish Masters in Madrid on April 2.

The Nippon passed its first three rounds in two sets, notably its quarter on Friday against the Taiwanese Lin Chun-Yi (21-10, 21-10), 21st, seeded 5 and defeated in the round of 16 by Mulhousian Arnaud Merklé (21-11, 20-22, 21-16). A qualification of the ASPTTS player for the final would therefore constitute an authentic achievement.
