The admission of SSD UniMe to the National Serie A Baseball championship for the blind has been made officialafter the decision of Italian Baseball League for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LIBCI). A historic result achieved by the university team which, as also underlined by Silvia Bosurgi, president of SSD UniMe, “fills with joy and satisfaction”. “This project of ours, developed in just under two years, now takes on a further notable social meaning, representing the transition from an amateur commitment to competitive participation at a national level,” says Silvia Bosurgi, also speaking of “a step forward important that rewards the foresight of the project, as well as the passion and competence of the staff who are part of the sector”.

It starts in spring

The next Serie A tournament, whose formula has not yet been defined, will start in the spring, with the participation of some historic and renowned players on the Italian scene, such as Patrini Malnate, Lampi Milano, Thunders Five Milano, Leonessa Brescia, Fortitudo Bologna White Sox, Fiorentina, Roma all Blinds and Thurpos Cagliari. To these will be added Messina, and most likely, also Blindkaralis, the new team from Cagliari. “The result achieved of being able to play in Serie A was only possible thanks to the perseverance of the whole group, from the coaches to the assistants to the athletes – he states Emilia Ammirato, team coach – A collective effort that in a short time led us to compete with more renowned teams that have been playing for several years. The definitive springboard was certainly the victory at the Torneo Esordienti in Bollate, last September, and then the final act in our home in October with the dispute of the Torneo dello Strait, on the occasion of which the LIBCI with its delegates had the opportunity to verify the team’s latest steps forward.”

Passion and teamwork

“The teamwork and stubbornness of our athletes gave us the great satisfaction of having the opportunity to play in the top league of baseball for the blind – he continues Luisa Colosi, team manager – We are proud of our athletes who, ever since the news leaked out, have made it clear that they will work even harder than before.” SSD UniME is therefore preparing for an exciting season in the national Serie A, ready to demonstrate that passion, dedication and teamwork can overcome any obstacle.
