Spain: 19-year-old futsal player dies after head impact

The young man did not survive the shock. A futsal player, Raul Jurado Calvo, aged 19, died on Monday after a violent contact to the head the day before during a futsal match with his club in Sabadell, a town north of Barcelona. His team faced at home, in a Catalan third division match, the Sports Sala Santa Perpetua, reports the EFE press agency, taken up by several Iberian media.

The young player would have received a “severe blow” during a “chance collision” with an opponent, explains the press agency. “Despite the rapid action of the public and medical services, nothing could be done to reverse the situation and Raul left us this Monday,” his club explained in a post on Instagram.

“Player, teammate, brother, son, friend, fighter on and off the field. The void you leave is incalculable, your dedication is a source of inspiration. Your memory will forever be linked to the shield you defended until the end. Rest in peace Raulito,” continues his club, El Atico de Sabadell, in this post as a tribute accompanied by a black and white photo of the young man.

The Catalan federation also relayed the announcement of the young man’s death. “The federation presents its most sincere condolences to the family and friends, mentioning in a press release the “mourning” linked to the disappearance of the 19-year-old player. Rest in peace. »

The Sports Sala Santa Perpetua also offered its condolences on Instagram. “We would never want to see this type of accident in sport,” says the club which faced Sabadell on the day of the tragedy.
