Social Media Star Nader El-Jindaoui Shines in Hertha BSC’s Cup Heroics

His big lifelong dream of playing in his first professional home game in the Berlin Olympic Stadium came true – and how!

Internet star Nader Jindaoui (27) – who has two million followers on Instagram (for comparison: Hertha BSC is followed by 314,000 people) and 1.75 million followers on YouToube – is on cloud nine. He was surprisingly one of the heroes of the cup thriller against HSV (8:6 nE)!

Hertha is in the cup quarter-finals – also thanks to Nader El-Jindaoui, who came on as a substitute in a professional game for the first time in the 80th minute. Strong: Jindaoui was involved in the preparation of the 3:3 in the 120th minute and had the courage to score a penalty.

Jindaoui grins: “I’m new and just looked to see who was in touch. When a few hands stayed down, I thought, “Why not?”

Hertha coach Pal Dardai: “Jindaoui fought for his life in every training session!”

Coach Pal Dardai (47) said: “He has balls and signed up for the penalty shootout where other players didn’t raise their hands. And he deserved this commitment and fought for his life in training. I honored that.”

Nader, who usually plays in Hertha’s regional league team in the 4th division, can hardly believe his luck: “I haven’t realized it yet and I need a few hours for it. I’ve fought for this all my life, now it was time. The fact that we progressed one round was the cherry on the cake – simply indescribable.”

Jindaoui continued about his emotional world: “At the end of the day, it’s football that I’ll play all my life. Even though some people always like to say that I’m an influencer – but I’m a footballer and I share a little bit of my life. But if you ask me and google it – it says footballer and that’s how I feel too. I hope I’ve been able to prove that now.”

How should things continue in the future?

Nader, who has been training with the professionals every day for weeks: “I’m not finished yet. I want to help the team as much as I can. Let’s see what the future brings. It’s great that I was able to repay the coach’s trust.”

But coach Dardai also says: “I’m always honest with the players. I told him you have hot moves. When the moment comes and I need you, you play. This time it was like that. A game before (Jindaoui was on the professional bench for the first time in the second division; editor) when the score was 5-1 against Elversberg, I would rather bring in young players like Gustav Christensen.

“Jindaoui must not take up space for any young Hertha player”

Jindaoui is currently also benefiting from the injuries to many offensive players such as Winkler (gastrointestinal), Bence and Palko Dardai as well as Ibo Maza (all ankle). But he has to continue to fight for every single mission.

Dardai: “Nader is already 27 years old. He’s now coming out of no man’s land and is on a great path. Nevertheless, he must not take away the place of any young player here. My job at Hertha is to train the young players, grow them up and create values. Nader has to understand that too.”

Saturday in Kaiserslautern (1 p.m.) Jindaoui’s next appearance awaits!

Dardai: “I enjoy working with him. This time he helped against HSV and maybe next time too…”
