Skorpion Club Pordenone Libertas: Celebrating 50 Years of Martial Arts Excellence

Great celebration, just as great is the history of the Skorpion club Pordenone Libertas, for the half century of life of the martial arts association which tomorrow starting at 6.30 pm will celebrate its first half century of life at the PalaCrisafulli in Pordenone.

Mayor Alessandro Ciriani together with councilor Walter De Bortoli, the provincial president of Libertas, Ivo Neri, and the regional president Lorenzo Cella, “blessed” the anniversary last night in the Town Hall.
On this occasion, Ciriani presented a plaque to Enea Sellan, one of the founders of Skorpion.
It was Sellan himself who retraced, in broad terms, the history of “his” association.

A story that began in 1973, when a company was founded which has grown more and more and which today, after half a century, is in all respects a cornerstone in the field of martial arts, acting as an educational bridge between family and school.

It all began in a gym in Torre, in the premises that now house the post office. Then there was the move to the Palazzetto and the constant commitment to spreading judo especially among school children and young people, when this discipline was still little known.

“Slowly – Sellan explained – the educational aspect was appreciated, capable of channeling aggression through positive control of emotions. Thus, “judo for all” projects have also been developed, with great attention to children with disabilities. In this sense, the work of extraordinary and capable teachers, such as Roberto Copat and Walter Bravin, in carrying out activities with children affected by autism is fundamental.”

Today Skorpion has over 500 members of all ages and embodies the same ideal and ethics as when it was founded.

It was then the current president of Skorpion, Massimo Cester, who illustrated the identikit of the association and its many facets to the mayor and those present. An association that has grown richer over the years, opening the doors to other martial arts, to fitness up to the latest affiliation of a group of artistic gymnasts and the opening of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kung fu and Sanda courses.

The medal collection speaks for itself: from 1985 to today, the sports club has collected – between international and national events – 32 gold, 39 silver and 47 bronze.

Important and prestigious results, which make Skorpion one of the most renowned sporting associations in the regional context.
