Ski jumping: Premiere for Kramer and Co. in Engelberg

Ski jumping

After the start two weeks ago in Lillehammer, the World Cup season for women ski jumpers continues on Friday and Saturday in Engelberg. The Swiss town has traditionally been the ski jumpers’ dress rehearsal for the Four Hills Tournament for years. Now, for the first time, women are competing on the Groß-Titlis ski jump.

Neo-ÖSV head coach Bernhard Metzler’s team is unchanged from Lillehammer. This also means that we have to wait a little longer for the World Cup defending champion and athlete of the year, Eva Pinkelnig, to start the season, after suffering from an overstrained knee during a long training jump.

“We are very confident that Eva will be ready for action again soon. We are already planning a joint training course with her next week and expect her to start competing in the World Cup again after Christmas,” said Metzler.

“It’s a cool place”

He himself knows the ski jump in Engelberg and can therefore prepare his athletes well for the new conditions. “It’s a cool place, a cool area and a new jump for the athletes. That doesn’t happen that often either. Everyone is really looking forward to it.”

At the start, Sara Marita Kramer was the best Austrian with sixth and ninth places and is fifth in the World Cup. For the other jumpers it was not yet enough for top ten placements.

All Austrians qualified

In the qualification on Thursday evening, Kramer was the best Austrian in sixth place with a jump of 129 m. With Lisa Eder (118.0 m/12th), Julia Mühlbacher (111.5 m/17th), Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (110.0 m/19th), Chiara Kreuzer (110.5 m/25th) and Hannah Wiegele (98.0 m/35th), all Austrians will take part in the first competition on Friday (3:30 p.m., live on ORF1). Another jumping follows on Saturday (12.30 p.m., live on ORF Sport +).
