Sharks imposed their law against Cardinals

Supported by Leonardo Reginatto and Maikel García, Tiburones de La Guaira defeated Cardenales de Lara 6-5, this Wednesday in La Guaira to consolidate their position in third place in the table and take another step towards qualification.

Ozzie Guillen’s men left their record at 27-24 and were half a game ahead of the Margarita Braves (26-24), who split honors in the doubleheader in Puerto La Cruz.

Tiburones took the lead with a line in the first inning due to a single by Reginatto and extended their lead to 2-0, in the third, with a hit by Yasiel Puig.

The Cardinals came from behind for the first time in the fourth inning and tied the scores with singles by Gorkys Hernández and Odubel Herrera. However, in the fifth Reginatto appeared again and put La Guaira ahead 4-2 with a line drive to left field. An inning later, a deflected pitch by Franklin Van Gurp gave the Salty one more goal.

The red birds, reluctant to fall, tied it again in the seventh with a home run by Johan Quevedo and a single by Juniel Querecuto. But, ultimately, luck was not on his side.

Everything was decided in the eighth with a bases-loaded walk by Yapson Gómez for Michael García, who had another great night of 4-3 with three runs scored. Jojanse Torres was in charge of safely removing Lara’s ninth and was credited with his fourth save.

The victory went to the indecipherable Arnaldo Hernández (3-1), who completed a relief of a scoreless inning and extended his appearances to 23 without allowing runs. The defeat, however, went to Yapson Gómez (3-2).
