Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was named Canada’s Most Outstanding Athlete of the Year on Monday.
The 25-year-old won the North Star Award, formerly known as the Lou Marsh Trophy, after being named to the NBA’s first all-star team and leading the country to a bronze medal during the last Basketball World Cup.
Gilgeous-Alexander is the second basketball specialist after Steve Nash in 2005 to earn the honor.
Gilgeous-Alexander was chosen over Connor McDavid, Nick Taylor, Camryn Rogers and Summer McIntosh.
Last season, Gilgeous-Alexander, who plays with the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaged 31.4 points per game and finished 5th in MVP voting.
