Freiburg – ‘The first half of the 2023/24 season went very well for SC Freiburg. However, those responsible at Breisgauer don’t want to leave anything to chance and are therefore looking for new additions for the winter to further strengthen the squad. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United is said to have become the focus of SC Freiburg, but signing him will be anything but easy.

In addition to SC Freiburg, FC Sevilla from Spain and Olympique Lyon from France are also said to be interested. All three clubs want to sign the attacking midfielder in January. The Tunisian international is currently largely sidelined at Manchester United and has only appeared in five of 19 Premier League games this season.

The offensive player was on loan at Birmingham City last season, but returned to Manchester after the loan expired. His contract only runs until the end of June 2024, but the club can extend it by one year. If Manchester United pulls the option, a loan would be possible in January until the end of the season.

SC Freiburg is keen on Manchester professional

What is attractive is the fact that Hannibal was not nominated by the Tunisian national coach for the Africa Cup of Nations in January and will therefore not miss his club for several weeks. Fabrizia Romano reports that discussions are currently underway about a possible transfer.

However, Manchester United will probably not grant potential loan clubs a purchase option because the top English club is betting on the 20-year-old. The market value of the French-born Tunisian is currently twelve million euros – and the trend is rising. The next few weeks will show whether SC Freiburg can prevail against the competition and sign Hannibal. (smr)
