Sami Chouchi Nominated for ‘Ippon of the Year’ Award by International Judo Federation

Sami Chouchi is among the five nominated in the ‘ippon of the year’ category, announced the International Judo Federation (IJF) which unveiled on Saturday the list of candidates for these traditional end-of-year awards.

Sami Chouchi (-90kg), 40th in the world in his new category, is likely to receive an award thanks to a move made during the Tel Aviv Grand Slam tournament in February. The 30-year-old from Brussels placed a seiryoku-zenyo two seconds from the end of his second round fight against the Israeli Nadav Zurat. Along with several other judokas, Sami Chouchi has just completed a training course in Japan. The prizes will be awarded during the Paris Grand Slam from February 2 to 4. Eight categories are on the program with the judoka and judokate of the year, the hope of the year, the coach of the year, the ippon of the year, a judo for peace category, judo for children and the best moment of the season.
