Revitalization of “Benito Juárez” Poliforum: A New Era for Cancun’s Sporting and Cultural Events

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced the rehabilitation of the “Benito Juárez” Poliforum of Cancun, with an investment of more than 46 million pesos, so that it can once again be the scene of major sporting events.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Public Works (SEOP) Irazú Sarabia, and the head of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ), Eric Arcila Arjona, the governor indicated that corruption caused the lack of maintenance in locker rooms, bathrooms, floors and in the rest of the facilities that were practically inoperative, reports a press release.

“In an act of social justice we are going to renovate it to restore its splendor so that the people of Quintana Roo can enjoy it, not only for sporting events but also for cultural and entertainment events,” he added.

He highlighted that this is what the New Agreement for Well-being and Development is about, generating the best conditions so that shared prosperity is reflected in all sectors of the community.

He pointed out that the intention is to revive this poliforum that has been a historical headquarters for the state, since great events have been experienced there such as the Basketball League of the Americasworld boxing title functions, world and Pan American championships in judo, fencing, as well as international badminton and table tennis competitions, among others.

Likewise, he said that reviving this space for meeting and recreation will be for the social integration and coexistence of everyone.

“When corruption is fought, the money is enough for more, to give athletes a quality place for their development.”

Secretary Irazú Sarabia announced that she contemplates the rehabilitation of its structure, stands, the roof, the electrical and hydrosanitary installations and the exteriors. It will also be provided with air conditioning and a new floor will be installed to make it a professional court again.
