Remembering Natale Fugazzotto: A Life Dedicated to Badminton and Physical Education

Natale Fugazzotto died at 79 years old


He has been a physical education teacher in numerous schools in the province of Lecco

He collaborated with the Badminton & Croquet Club Lecco to spread a sport he loved so much

LECCO – He would have accomplished 80 years old next Monday, Christmas Day, but the prof. Fugazzotto left earlier, suddenly, leaving in pain, in addition to his family, also the family of badminton of the province of Lecco, to which he had dedicated passion and energy.


Born in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (ME) on 25 December 1943, he had moved to Brianza many years ago and had been a teacher of physical education in numerous schools in the area. Among the latest we remember the Molteno averagesl’Badoni Technical Institute and the Bachelet High School in Oggiono. It was in these schools where he worked to spread badminton, teaching hundreds of kids and leading many of them to excel at regional level.

He collaborated with the Badminton & Croquet Club Lecco developing a unique school project of multidisciplinary teaching, promoting the teaching and practice of Badminton in numerous schools of all levels with a native English-speaking teacher, Clare Hookham (Badminton was born in England in the second half of the 19th century).

A player himself, alternating his passion for Badminton with that for Tennis, he has participated in numerous tournaments and championships; to remember, in particular, the trip to Pontecagnano (Sa) in 2000 for the Italian Master Championships where he competed together with Giorgio Rusconi. It was indeed Giorgio Rusconithen President of the Regional Badminton Committee, to indicate him as Provincial Delegate of Lecco, a position he held from 2009 to 2016. In 2014 he obtained the coveted recognition of Coni Bronze Star.

He was married to Elvira Garofalo, School Head who stood out for his attention to disabled people, also involving them in sport. Elvira, who was a member of the Panathlon of Lecco, and President of the PanBadminton of Oggiono, passed away in 2013. Natale Fugazzotto will be remembered for having worthily represented the figures of educator and sportsman.

Natale Fugazzotto leaves his children Matilda con Giuseppe, Alessandro con Claudia e Paolabeloved grandchildren Alice, Giulia, Luca, Marco, Camilla e Cecilia. The funeral will be held at Todayin the parish church of Imberido Thursday 21 December at 10.30.
