Recognizing the Most Outstanding Athletes of 2023 in Sancti Spiritus

Holy Spirit.- The most outstanding Sancti Spiritus athletes of 2023 were recognized at the tribute Gala held at the Principal Theater of this city.

It resulted in a year of celebration of several international events, including the ALBA Games in Venezuela, the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, and the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

The 10 youth athletes with the best results in the period from January to December were awarded; recognitions received by Jorge Hodelín Rodríguez (Athletics), Eysely Rodríguez Urquiza (Road Cycling and MTB), Neiler Companioni García (Water Polo), Abraham Pérez González (Archery), Cristian Santos García (Archery), Diosber Hernández Mustelier (Athletics), Richard Portal González (Athletics), Leduar Díaz Espineira (Skating), Erwin Perdomo Espinosa (Swimming) and Leonardo Gallardo Betancourt (Baseball).

The most outstanding among the women was selected Sheyla Darias Rojas (Hockey), silver in the Centrocaribes of San Salvador; and Kemel Gallo García (Chess) took the distinction in the men’s sector, winner of 2nd place in the Honduran Regional Championship.

In the category of people with disabilities, Juan Manuel Ortega Hidalgo (Athletics) ANCI was awarded; Yumalay Valdés Cruz (Judo) ANSOC and Yoan Manuel López González (Swimming) ACLIFIM.

The best National referee of the province Sancti Spíritus was chosen Yurislando Romero Hernández (Taekwondo), and international Carlos Enrique Arias Roque (Sports Shooting).

They received the paintings of the best high-performance and grassroots coaches, David Pérez Castillo (Baseball) and Yoelvis Pereira Santander (Skating).

The most outstanding physical education teacher of the year was chosen Orlando Valle Fernández from José Mendoza Elementary School. Activist with best work, Roberto Javier Morales Torres (Martial Arts); special mentions; Rafael Muñoz Medina (Baseball), María Cristina Pacheco López (Swimming) and Sergio Alejandro Pérez García (Electronic Sports), and Odelvis Melanio Peña Guerrero (community physical activity teacher).

The ten most distinguished Yayabero athletes in the province in 2023 and who were awarded at the Tribute Gala; Martha Esther Torres Palenzuela (Softboll), Anamalia González Arboláez (Softboll), Meyli Coss Hernández (Hockey), Yosvani Veitía Soto (Boxing), Jorge Cuéllar Terry (Boxing), Yasniel Carrero Zambrano (Athletics), Lorena González Mendoza (Swimming), Yoanki Mencía Hernández (Basketball), Lisbeth Hernández Hernández (Sports Shooting) and Javier Vega Valle (Archery).

At the closing of the activity, the best athletes in the different categories were awarded. For people with disabilities, the stimulus was awarded to Diangelo Loriga Rodríguez (Sports Shooting) ACLIFIM. Rookie of the year, Diorge Escobar Olmo (Artistic Gymnastics). In individual sports for women, Milena Venegas Cancio (Rowing); among the men, Alejandro Claro Fiss (Boxing). Yuraima Vera Rojas (Hockey) and Osniel Melgarejo Hernandez took the laurels in collective disciplines; The most distinguished team was the 1st Category Women’s Hockey team; Baseball in the collective; and the individual, Swimming with the contribution of 79 medals in the last National School Games.

The moment was propitious to award the event of the year to the star player Frederich Cepeda Cruz, record holder in extra-base hits, total bases traveled and walks.

The Sancti Spiritus Sports Gala was chaired by Deyvi Pérez Martín, Member of the Central Committee of the Party and its First Secretary in the province; Alexis Lorente Jiménez, Governor of the Provincial Government of People’s Power; Romel Beltrán Pérez, First Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Party in Sancti Spíritus; Bárbara Minguez Amézaga, President of the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power, and Laidalí Santana Carrero, Director of INDER in the land of the yayabo.
