Recap of Betclic ELITE 17th Day: JL Bourg and Saint-Quentin Secure Wins

Before the Christmas holidays, the 17th day of Betclic ELITE took place gradually throughout this Saturday, December 23. Saint-Quentin and Le Mans gave each other a nice gift under the tree by winning the last qualifying places for the 2024 Leaders Cup (February 16-18 in Saint-Chamond).

As a starter, demonstrations from JL Bourg and Saint-Quentin

JL Bourg will spend Christmas warm on the podium of the Betclic ELITE after its comfortable victory at SLUC Nancy (59-85). Thanks to a huge second quarter (13-30), the Burgiens made things much easier for themselves in Lorraine. With an outside address at the meeting (12/25 at 3pts), Bourg-en-Bresse completely dominated the Nancy team, certainly without its leader Frank Mason III.

In a match where the winner earned a ticket for the 2024 Leaders Cup, Saint-Quentin also largely dominated ESSM Le Portel (88-67). In front of the score only once (6-7), the Stellistes almost never existed in this meeting and always conceded a large gap in the score. The SQBB protected itself from any possible northern return by an excellent outside address (12/25 at 3 points) and by also managing to remove Portelo All-Star Bastien Vautier from the match 7 minutes from the end of the game.

New winning outing at the Accor Arena for Paris

For its second appearance of the season at the Accor Arena, Paris Basketball once again left victorious, this time against SIG Strasbourg (78-67). In a meeting with a festive atmosphere but meager skill, it was the club from the capital which came out the best. Thanks to his great domination of the offensive rebound (20 shots), Tuomas Iisalo’s men made the Alsatians’ zone defense pay. In the second half, without appearing to be there, Paris pulled away and was never caught by Strasbourg.

After the qualification of Saint-Quentin, there was still one place to be allocated for the 2024 Leaders Cup. This was played between Strasbourg and four other teams who competed against each other (Le Mans vs Dijon and Elan Chalon vs Cholet). It was ultimately Le Mans which won its qualification by point average compared to Strasbourg. The MSB therefore scored a double blow by winning in Antarès against JDA Dijon (76-67). Thanks to its rebound domination and a well-executed end to the match, the Sarthe club managed to win. Its neighbor from Cholet will also spend Christmas with a gift victory against Elan Chalon (79-81). Here too, everything was decided in the last minutes with a final basket in the game from Cholet leader TJ Campbell less than 30 seconds from the end of the match.

ADA Blois returns to victory, Limoges gets the better of Nanterre

Against Boulogne-Levallois, ADA Blois returned to victory (95-84) after nine losses in a row in all competitions, including eight in Betclic ELITE. The Blesois leaders notably responded, like All-Star Milan Barbitch and author of a near triple-double. Mickael Hay’s team made the difference in the 3rd quarter (28-18) to sign a valuable success to keep up with their remaining competitors.

At the end of the 17th day of Betclic ELITE, Limoges CSP won against Nanterre 92 (79-68). In Beaublanc, Cercle Saint-Pierre dominated the entire game against the Nanterrians who were not very offensively inspired. The Limougeaud club was also able to appreciate the return to business of its captain Nicolas Lang (15 points). Nanterre lost its nerve somewhat in the game, like Benjamin Sene, penalized with a disqualifying foul after angry gestures.
