Randri, the coach suspended for humiliating treatment, accused by five players and defended by the other 17

This Thursday, the RFEF suspended the federative license of the Alhama CF coach for two years. Juan Antonio ‘Randri’ García, as a result of his “vexatious and degrading treatment” towards several soccer players who denounced him last season, and also disqualified the technical director of the Murcia club, Tamara Ruiz García, for one year from any sports organization activity. In addition, the RFEF established a financial penalty of 6,001 euros on the Murcia club.

Randri joined the team in 2018 and led the project that culminated in promotion to Primera in 2022. However, in the top category of Spanish women’s football, the team was in the relegation positions throughout the season.

The scandal came to light last April. ‘El Periódico’ and ‘Mundo Deportivo’ reported on the complaint by the Alhama staff towards their coach for insults and humiliating treatment. The last straw was a sexual content photography sent by Randri García to all his players, including a minor, in which members of the staff appeared naked after showering in the locker room.

Subsequently, 17 of the 22 footballers of the Murcia team issued a statement denying having suffered inappropriate behavior by your technician. «We do not agree with accusing the coach as a sexual harasser, something that is extremely serious. Furthermore, we want to emphasize that at no time have we felt harassed with gestures or actions that could violate our personal and professional dignity and privacy. If these events had occurred, we would have reported them immediately in all those instances that were necessary,” the players declared. El Alhama also denied the facts that were attributed to its employee and began an investigation to clarify the episode in the photograph.

For their part, the five remaining players distanced themselves from their teammates and in statements to EP, they claimed to have seen “atrocity”, suffered “humiliations“, been “humiliated» and meaning «fear».

Randri came forward with all the information and statements about his figure and his behavior. The coach assured that he had respected the rights of his players at all times and apologized in case “someone felt bad” for any comments during his career, to which he added that “under no circumstances” did he mean them in a “derogatory manner.” .

Futpro, the largest players’ union, filed several complaints against the coach. The Alhama investigation cleared its coach of the accusations, but Trabajo carried out an inspection and concluded that Randri had “inappropriate behavior” that affected “the dignity of the majority of the players”, which led to “a “hostile work environment produced by inappropriate/derogatory/humiliating comments, which leads to having created a degrading or offensive work environment.” Likewise, it confirmed that the aforementioned photograph of a sexual nature was sent from the coach’s phone, but by the technical director of the club, Tamara Ruiz García.

Finally, the RFEF entered ex officio and opened a disciplinary procedure regarding the “improper practices” of the three involved. Said investigation concluded by determining that Randri starred in «humiliating and degrading treatment towards the majority of the players», the technical director had «passivity in the face of the coach’s inappropriate behavior and participation in inconsiderate actions towards the players» and Alhama, «lack of preventive and reactive actions in the face of the coach’s persistent behavior», in addition to the sanctions of two years of suspension, one year of disqualification and 6,001 euros, respectively.
