Rafael Nadal wants to know one last time. After a year out due to injury, the Spaniard returns to the tour in Brisbane.

At the start of the new tennis season, all eyes are on one man: Rafael Nadal. The 37-year-old is returning to the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane (December 31st to January 7th) after an absence of almost a year.

What can you expect from the injury-hit veteran? Nobody really knows, not even Nadal himself. “I don’t expect much, to be honest,” says the 22-time Grand Slam winner. The main thing for him is to be able to enjoy his return, adds Nadal.

The Spaniard played his last official match at the Australian Open in January 2023, when he failed in the first round. Afterwards, Nadal was out with severe hip flexor problems.

Djokovic has Nadal on the bill

For Novak Djokovic it is clear that Nadal is not coming back to just play along. “He wants to win titles, he wants to be the best, that’s why he is what he is: a legend of our sport,” said the world number 1. Djokovic is sure that Nadal’s preparation is aimed at another Grand Slam tournament to win.
